The two-time MLA from Nanjangud in the Mysuru district and six-time MP from Chamarajanagar had been unwell for a while.
In 1976, he began his political career with the then-Janata Party, and in 1979, he joined the Congress. Prior to joining the BJP, he also served a term with the Samata Party, JD(U), and JD(S).
From 1999 until 2004, Sreenivasa Prasad was the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government’s Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution.
After that, he joined the Congress, was elected as an MLA in 2013, and was appointed as the Siddaramaiah government’s minister of revenue and religious endowments.
2016 saw Prasad return to the BJP after stepping down from the Karnataka Assembly. On a BJP ticket, he ran in the 2017 Nanjangud bypolls but was unsuccessful. In 2019, he campaigned successfully from Chamarajanagar for the Lok Sabha.
