Sophie Devine extends contract with Perth Scorchers
Sophie Devine has signed a contract extension with the Perth Scorchers and shall continue to don the orange and black kit for two more years in the WBBL.
The star New Zealand allrounder, who had been retained by the Scorchers in the inaugural overseas Sophie Devine player draft last year, repaid her faith in fine fashion as she amassed 489 runs and scalped 14 wickets as she was named in the WBBL Team of the Tournament.
Devine, one of the leading allrounders in world cricket, is only two wickets away from completing a 100 in the competition. She was delighted to have signed with the Scorchers for two more years and termed it as a ‘no brainer’. She captained the side to the 2021-22 title – their first – and termed it a special memory.

She expressed her excitement about signing with the Scorchers for another two years calling it a ‘no-brainer.’ She described it as a cherished memory after leading their team to their first title in the 2021-22 season.
The Perth Scorchers have also extended support to Mikayla Hinkley from Brisbane Heat while Alana King has extended her contract with the team for three more seasons.

Sophie is Scorchers’ third highest run-getter with 1573 runs at 34.19 from 55 games, which is just behind Beth Mooney (2089) and Elyse Villani (1706). She was also named captain of the WBBL Team of the Tournament for the second time last season.

She also becomes the first player signed by the Scorchers – whether male or female – under the pre-draft ruling by the league for overseas players. Sophie had a great WBBL season last year, smashing 489 runs at an average of 37.61, including hitting a century against Brisbane Heat. She also picked 14 wickets with her seam-bowling efforts.
