Modi assured all possible help to Kerala CM

19 people were killed on Tuesday due to massive landslides in various hilly areas near Meppadi in Kerala’s Wayanad district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday assured the Kerala government of all possible assistance from the Centre after landslides in parts of Wayanad.

He expressed concern over the situation and assured all possible assistance from the central government. Modi emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to ensure prompt relief and rehabilitation for the affected people.

Massive landslides in hilly areas near Meppadi

Hundreds of people are feared stranded due to massive landslides in hilly areas near Meppadi in Kerala’s Wayanad district. Seven people have died so far in the massive landslide. Leader of Opposition and former Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad Rahul Gandhi said he will speak to Union ministers and request all possible assistance for Wayanad.

I am deeply saddened by the massive landslide near Meppadi in Wayanad. My heartfelt condolences are with the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones. I hope those who are still trapped are rescued soon,” Rahul Gandhi wrote on Twitter.

Control room set up and relief efforts required

I have spoken to the Chief Minister of Kerala and the District Collector of Wayanad, who have assured me that rescue operations are underway. I have requested them to ensure coordination with all agencies, and inform us about any assistance required. I will speak to Union ministers and request them to provide all possible assistance to Wayanad. I urge all UDF workers to assist the administration in rescue and relief operations.

At least 48 people are undergoing treatment and four bodies have been brought to Wayanad Institute of Medical Sciences, ANI quoted a medical official as saying.

Modi speaks to Kerala CM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (July 30) spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and assured all possible assistance from the Centre following the landslide in Wayanad district that resulted in the death of eleven people, including children.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to two Union ministers from Kerala, Suresh Gopi and George Kurien, about the current situation, official sources said. Modi has directed BJP president J P Nadda to mobilise party workers in the region to assist in the relief efforts, reports news agency PTI.

PM Modi announces ex-gratia

The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF for the next of kin of each of the deceased killed in the landslides in parts of Wayanad. The injured will be given Rs 50,000.

Rahul Gandhi offers condolences

Leader of Opposition and former Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad Rahul Gandhi also offered condolences to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones. “I am deeply saddened by the massive landslide that has occurred near Meppadi in Wayanad. My heartfelt condolences are with the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones. I hope that those who are still trapped are evacuated soon.

The Congress leader said he has spoken to the Kerala chief minister and Wayanad district collector, who have assured me that rescue operations are underway. “I have requested them to ensure coordination with all agencies, set up a control room and inform us about any assistance required for relief efforts. I will speak to Union ministers and request them to provide all possible assistance to Wayanad. I urge all UDF workers to assist the administration in rescue and relief operations.

Conclusion

Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran has reached the spot and Minister Ramachandran Kadanapalli is also expected to arrive soon. Revenue Minister K. Rajan, Public Works Minister Mohammed Riyas and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Minister O.R. Kelu will fly to Wayanad from Thiruvananthapuram. Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan is also scheduled to leave for Wayanad.

According to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Office, 250 members of fire and rescue, civil defence, NDRF and local emergency response team are currently involved in the rescue operation at Chooral Mala in Wayanad. An additional NDRF team has also been directed to reach the spot immediately.
