Telangana High Court Chief Justice Alok Aradhe administered the oath of office to Verma after state Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari read out the warrant of appointment issued by President Draupadi Murmu. Former Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Verma was sworn in as the new Governor of Telangana at a simple and colourful ceremony at the Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, other Cabinet colleagues, Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy, MLAs and senior leaders of various political parties attended the event.

Verma, who was appointed governor on July 27, replaced CP Radhakrishnan, who was holding additional charge of Telangana along with Jharkhand since March. Earlier, Tamilisai Soundararajan contested the Lok Sabha elections from Tamil Nadu.

Radhakrishnan, who was also holding the charge of Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, has now been appointed as the new Governor of Maharashtra. 67-year-old Verma is the fourth Governor of Telangana. Earlier, all three governors E S L Narasimhan, Tamilisai Soundararajan and Radhakrishnan are from Tamil Nadu.

Verma, who joined the BJP from the Congress in 1993, served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura from 2018 to 2023. He also held the responsibility of the ministries of power, rural development, panchayat raj, finance, planning, science and technology and environment. He lost the assembly elections from Charilam in Sipahijala district of Tripura in 2023.
