The tale of Dhruv Jurel | A veteran of the Kargil conflict
Although his father had different career intentions for him, the third India-England Test will see an Agra kid replace KS Bharath.
Dhruv Jurel made his Test debut against England on Thursday in Rajkot, as was to be expected, during the third Test. For the pivotal match of the series, which is tied at one wicket, wicketkeeper-batsman KS Bharat, 23, of Agra, received the Test cap because the team management was not overly thrilled with his performance.
The team administration and selection committee chose the gifted Uttar Pradesh wicketkeeper Dhruv instead of Ishan Kishen because he has pleased the people who count.
Over the past year, it has been nothing but a dream come true for father Nem Singh, a retired Havaldar in the Indian Army.
“Dhruv represented India A in the IPL and has now been selected for the Indian squad. For us, it is a dream. Thanking God and other people is beyond our comprehension. I told Dhruv to be more grounded than previously the other day when we chatted,” he recalls.
Nem had once hoped that his son would pass the National Defense Academy (NDA) entrance exam and enlist in the military. Veteran of the Kargil conflict Jurel Sr. wanted Dhruv to continue the family tradition, but the young cricket player was too enamored with the game to do so. Obtaining a steady employment has been the main objective, as none of the family members have played cricket.
But Dhruv was thinking of something else. Many told his father in his early days that his son bats extremely well and should concentrate on it, but doubts about his son’s ability to play the game persisted.
“My family has never participated in cricket. The comment “ladka achha hai, aap ise cricket mein daalo” was made by everyone who witnessed him bat. However, as a father, I was also concerned about his future. What would happen if he didn’t succeed in cricket, specifically? Even Dhruv struggled academically, according to his father’s memories.
Nem spoke with coach Parvendra Yadav, who was in charge of Agra’s Springdale Academy, and asked him to help his son become a skilled cricket player.
It’s expensive to play cricket, particularly if you want to be a batsman. Dhruv’s father recalls how his mother had to pawn her one and only gold chain in order to purchase his first kit because he desired a bat, which cost Rs 800.
At that time, we were short on cash, so I had to borrow eight hundred rupees. Later on, he desired a kit bag, but it cost a whopping 6000 rupees. I said, “Leave the game, I don’t have so much money. Mat khelo, itna paisa nahi hai.” However, we were able to purchase his first kit bag when he locked himself in the toilet and his mother decided to pawn her one and only gold chain. Even though I still giggle sometimes when I think back on those days, one thing was evident. Jurel Sr. continues, “He was prepared to work hard.
Now, everywhere that Nem goes, Dhruv calls him his father. He is looking forward to the day when his son dons the India colours and is loving the limelight. Though he is attempting to remain realistic, he feels proud. These days, food and values are the main topics of conversation for a father who witnessed most of his junior cricket games and can recall all of his scores.
“I no longer discuss cricket with him. I asked him if he had eaten when he called the other day. What is his current state of affairs? I tell him to remember his sanskar (values) so that he becomes an inspiration to others. Respect everyone who has assisted him thus far, Nem counsels.
A Rising Star in Youth Cricket
Dhruv’s talent and dedication soon caught the attention of local cricket coaches and selectors. He made a name for himself in youth cricket tournaments, showcasing his skills as a wicketkeeper-batsman. Dhruv’s consistent performances earned him a spot in the Uttar Pradesh state team, where he continued to make strides in his cricketing career.
IPL and India A
The Indian Premier League (IPL), a prestigious T20 cricket tournament, provides a platform for young talents to showcase their abilities alongside international stars. Dhruv Jurel got his breakthrough when he was picked by a franchise in the IPL, allowing him to rub shoulders with some of the best cricketers in the world. His performances in the IPL caught the attention of the selectors, and Dhruv was subsequently chosen to represent India A, the national developmental team.
Test Debut and National Call-up
The pinnacle of any cricketer’s career is representing their country in Test cricket. Dhruv Jurel’s hard work and consistent performances led to his selection for the Indian Test team. In the third Test against England, held in Rajkot, Dhruv made his much-awaited Test debut. The team management, dissatisfied with the performance of the incumbent wicketkeeper-batsman, entrusted Dhruv with the responsibility of donning the gloves for this crucial match of the series.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the tale of Dhruv Jurel is a saga of sacrifice, determination, and triumph.
