Not many people knew me until I played for CSK. Sharing the dressing room with Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) is very special for youngsters like me, especially those coming from Sri Lanka,” Pathirana said on Sportstar.

CSK stepped down from captaincy for the second time in 2024 and handed over the captaincy to Rituraj Gaikwad. There is no clear information about Dhoni’s future yet. The wicketkeeper-batsman will be retained if he decides to play in IPL 2025.
Rituraj is all set to lead the Yellow Army and could be their first choice. The right-handed batsman joined the franchise in 2019 and made his IPL debut in 2020. He won the Orange Cap in IPL 2021, which CSK won.
I think it will be a good challenge. India are coming in with a new coach and some new players; their combination will be a little different. But it will be a good challenge for us as they are the world champions. We have a very good team and a lot of talent and potential. Unfortunately, we didn’t do well in the T20 World Cup. But if we can win this series, it will be a confidence booster for the next three years,” Pathirana said.
