BJP not allowing DK Suresh

The ongoing political tussle in Karnataka has taken a new turn as DK Shivakumar, a prominent Congress leader, has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of obstructing DK Suresh, another Congress leader, from raising crucial issues related to the state in Parliament. This development has added fuel to the existing political fire in Karnataka, with accusations and counter-accusations becoming a common theme.

Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar accused the BJP of not allowing MP D K Suresh to raise his voice in Parliament on purported injustice.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar today accused the BJP of not allowing Congress MP D K Suresh to raise in Parliament the purported injustice meted out to Karnataka.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, he said, “The BJP has not allowed MP D K Suresh to speak about injustice to Karnataka in Parliament today. They adjourned the session as soon as BJP MP Tejasvi Surya finished his points without giving a chance to the lone Congress MP from Karnataka.”

“It is a pity that BJP MP Tejasvi Surya did not speak on behalf of the state in the House, though given the opportunity. The BJP MPs must be ashamed of not raising their voice for the state in Parliament. While MLAs, MLCs and MPs from Karnataka are in Delhi to raise the voice for Karnataka, the BJP MPs are refusing to do so,” he said.

Responding to the BJP’s allegations that the financial numbers given out by the Karnataka government are wrong, he said, “We are stating the facts. The BJP is demanding a white paper on this in the House; we will present a white paper on this.”

“We have not prepared the Union Budget; it was done by the BJP government in the Centre. The same budget had allocated ₹5,300 crore for the Upper Bhadra project and the Finance Commission had recommended about ₹5000 to ₹6,000 crore for Bengaluru. Has this been given to the state?” he questioned.

“The Centre has not released any funds for drought relief even though the Chief Minister and Revenue Minister have submitted a detailed report,” he said.

Asked about Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s statement that the Centre has released ₹6,000 crores for drought relief in the state, he said, “They haven’t given a single rupee.

The Chief Minister will give an answer to this claim in the upcoming Assembly session,” he added.

In a recent statement, DK Shivakumar alleged that the BJP, which holds power in Karnataka, is deliberately preventing DK Suresh from addressing and raising concerns about various state-related matters in the Parliament. This accusation comes amid a backdrop of heightened political tensions and power struggles between the Congress and the BJP in the state.

Background: The political landscape in Karnataka has been marked by continuous turmoil, with both the Congress and BJP engaging in a battle for political supremacy. DK Shivakumar, known for his strong political presence, has been vocal about issues concerning the state’s welfare and has been critical of the BJP-led government’s policies.

Allegations Against BJP: DK Shivakumar, a former minister and influential Congress leader, asserted that the BJP’s interference in parliamentary proceedings is a blatant attempt to suppress the voices of opposition leaders. According to him, this obstructive approach prevents DK Suresh from effectively representing the concerns and demands of the people of Karnataka on a national platform.

Impact on Parliamentary Discourse: Accusations of hindering a Member of Parliament (MP) in raising state-specific issues raise concerns about the health of parliamentary discourse. The ability of elected representatives to articulate the grievances and aspirations of their constituents is fundamental to a vibrant democratic process. Any alleged interference in this process can undermine the democratic principles on which parliamentary systems operate.

BJP’s Response: In response to DK Shivakumar’s allegations, the BJP has refuted any claims of intentionally obstructing DK Suresh’s participation in parliamentary debates. The BJP leadership has maintained that parliamentary proceedings are conducted in a fair and democratic manner, providing equal opportunities to all MPs to express their views.

Broader Political Implications: The ongoing political feud between the Congress and BJP in Karnataka not only affects the state’s governance but also has broader implications at the national level. As both parties engage in a war of words and strategic moves, the impact on policymaking and the overall political environment in Karnataka becomes a matter of concern for citizens.

Conclusion: The accusation made by DK Shivakumar against the BJP, alleging interference in parliamentary proceedings, adds another layer of complexity to Karnataka’s political scenario. The ability of elected representatives to voice concerns and engage in constructive debates is essential for a robust democracy. The ongoing developments highlight the need for a transparent and unbiased parliamentary system that facilitates open discussions on matters of public interest. The focus remains on whether these accusations will lead to a resolution or further intensify the political standoff in Karnataka.
